Customized learning techniques and new instructional technology are fueling a demand for teachers with the skill set to create progressive
curricula. Drexel's Master of Science in Teaching, Learning and Curriculum (TLC) builds on the university's experience and leadership in
online education to train certified instructors with the expertise to advance learning to the highest level.
The TLC curriculum is a flexible, online program consisting of 45 credits. Core courses provide an overview of current learning trends, from advanced techniques of instruction and assessment to the impact of multimedia and new learning technologies. Students focus on diversities in the classroom, such as students with special needs and intercultural learners, and develop solution-oriented strategies for instructional leadership. The goal is to design and develop a framework for evaluation and assessment using educational applications and research with a complete examination of the interconnected elements of an organization.
At the concentrations stage, students have an opportunity to match their degree to their career goals through in-depth study. With the approval of their graduate academic advisor they can customize their own concentration from education classes or select one of the following:
Students acquire an understanding of public and private as well as non-profit and for-profit educational organizations of all sizes. As collaborative leaders working within such organizations, they are taught to develop, analyze, implement, and evaluate instructional technologies across a broad spectrum of learning needs.
The TLC coursework provides expertise beyond that required for initial Pennsylvania certification and offers a path to professional development in a far-reaching range of disciplines. For teaching purposes it provides effective new ways to develop curriculum and share information. For career enhancement in areas such as healthcare or nonprofits, the program provides an invaluable understanding of current learning trends with clear strategies for implementing them in the workplace.
Whether you pursue the program to expand your professional horizons or as a gateway to a terminal degree, the TLC offers the competitive advantage of a Drexel graduate degree. Credits earned within the TLC program can be used towards PDE's Instructional II certification.
