Sport Management Professor Dr. Ellen Staurowsky has been invited by U.S. Congressman Bobby Rush to participate in a roundtable discussion entitled, Hypocrisy or Hype? The Impacts of Back-Room Deals, Payoffs, and Scandals in American Collegiate Student Athletics. The event will take place on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, from 1-3:30 pm in the Congressional Visitors Center of the United States Capitol.
The roundtable, which is being moderated by Jeremy Schapp, who is a sports writer, author and six-time Emmy Award winning television reporter for his work on ESPN’s E:60, SportsCenter, and Outside the Lines programming, is expected to draw an audience comprised of Members of Congress and their staffs, students, coaches, administrators, youth advocates and representatives of collegiate and neighborhood sports organization, associations and youth leagues. In addition to Dr. Staurowsky anticipated panelists include Ramogi Huma, President of the National Collegiate Players Association and Josh Luchs, a former agent, among others.
Drexel Sport Management is sending three students with Dr. Staurowsky to attend this event. Brian Palmer, Mollie Cusack and As-Samad Dawson will each have the opportunity to experience first-hand the discussion surrounding this current and pressing issue in the sport industry.
