Welcome to the online home of Goodwin College’s Multidisciplinary & Emerging Programs! Whether you are looking to earn a degree or certificate, or to return to school because you love to learn and want to be challenged, Multidisciplinary & Emerging Programs (affectionately called “MEP” for short) offers a broad array of cutting-edge programs in emerging fields.
For example, in 2009 MEP launched one of the nation’s few B.S. and M.S. degrees in Property Management. For its first 100 years, property management education was comprised of sharing information in apprenticeships and professional organizations. This model served the profession well during the 20th century. However, as we move deeper into the 21st century, it is becoming clear that the field of property management is emerging into a more sophisticated profession requiring higher levels of education to prepare professionals to deal with the critical thinking, technological, and leadership skills necessary to address modern challenges in property management.
Also in 2009, MEP launched a master’s degree in Project Management. While it is true that project management has been around since at least the 1950s, the field has experienced an explosion of growth, both in the number of project managers being employed and in the expectations of the industry. Not only is work becoming more “projectized,” but more organizations are using project management to achieve business results. This requires a solid foundation in business fundamentals, communication, and leadership, as well as skills in program management and portfolio management. There are dozens of master’s degrees in project management, but we are proud to be one of the few programs that is built around this fundamental understanding of the increasingly complex and vital role of the project manager.
MEP is home to a number of innovative learning opportunities like the ones mentioned above, in areas including Creativity and Innovation, E-Learning Leadership, Emergency Management, Homeland Security Management, Professional Studies, and Retail Leadership. The goal of MEP is to help you, the student, transform and create your future.
Last, but not least, all MEP degree programs are multidisciplinary, allowing students to experience the rich benefits of broad exposure to courses and faculty from not only the Goodwin College of Professional Studies, but also from the College of Arts & Sciences and the LeBow College of Business. A program such as General Studies is the perfect vehicle for the student who has a varied background and wants to maximize transfer credit while taking advantage of the program’s ability to accommodate “stackable credentials.” The possibilities are as vast as the imagination.
Again, thanks for visiting today.Sincerely,
