The Academic Bistro

Drexel University’s Academic Bistro, a state-of-the-art, 14,000-square-foot facility featuring a dining room and lounge, professional kitchens, and extensive culinary reference library, is located on the sixth floor of the Academic Building on 33rd and Arch Streets. It is home to culinary arts, culinary science, hospitality management, and food science students and offers the invaluable advantage of an on-site learning laboratory where theory is put into practice and future careers are shaped in a real world setting.

Under the guidance of faculty who are leading industry practitioners, students face on-the-job challenges that they will confront in their careers. In the Academic Bistro, culinary students prepare meals for the public and run the front and back of the house in the full-service restaurant and lounge, equipped with the latest sound system and two large screen monitors. All meals are created and made by students on the premises using the freshest ingredients and priced competitively.

The Academic Bistro is a vibrant and dynamic environment that can be rented out and is also a frequent venue for industry speakers. Recent events include:

  • Hosting the Food Network’s “Throwdown” with Bobby Flay
  • The Food Network’s Robert Irvine visit with Culinary Arts students
  • Food writer Nancy Harmon Jenkins
  • Hosting S. Pellegrino Almost Famous Chef Regional Competition
  • Culinary Arts Students’ interactive Thai Cooking Demo
